Joint Implementation of Environmental Initiatives
Representatives of Metafrax Group took part in the second meeting of the Council of industrial ecologists of the Perm region, which took place on the Sibur-Chemprom’s territory.
The event was attended by more than 17 heads of environmental protection departments in industrial enterprises, among them: Elena Chistyakova, Head of the Environmental Protection Department of Metafrax Chemicals, and Vladimir Zuyev, Deputy Head of the HSE Department of the Managing Company Metafrax Group. The meeting of the Council was also attended by representatives of science, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Forestry and Ecology of the Perm region.
The Perm region has a specific geochemical background. In natural conditions, the established average norms of maximum permissible concentrations for substances (MPC) in the whole country differ by tenfold. This means that bringing waste water up to the current MPC standards can disrupt the balance of hydrochemical facilities. Resources should be spent on other environmental measures to improve the quality of life of Perm citizens: improving the ecological background, enriching the ecosystem. This relevant subject was defined as a priority for combining the efforts of industrial ecologists of the Perm region.
Currently, MPC norms are regulated by the Federal Law. There are also no regulatory documents on the setting of MPC standards in certain regions. Nevertheless, there are a number of examples when administrative subjects managed to create and approve their own standards.
The Council participants shared their production problems and tasks related to regional norms of maximum permissible concentrations for substances, and also agreed to start preparing a roadmap on the initiative implementation to create a methodology for the development of regional MPC standards. The roadmap draft is planned to be prepared by February 2024.
The next meeting of the Council of industrial ecologists of the Perm region will be held on December 1 as part of the Perm Engineering and Industrial Forum.

The Council of industrial ecologists of the Perm region was established in July this year with the aim of uniting the efforts of the professional community in solving problems related to the development of industry in the Perm region while preserving natural resources.
The priority of environmental protection issues is fixed in the mission of Metafrax Group. An environmental policy has been adopted, which purpose is to ensure effective activities to minimize the negative impact on the environment and prevent environmental risks. At the end of 2021, by a decision of the Board of Directors, a working group on sustainable development was established at Metafrax Group, engaged in the systematic implementation of ESG principles in the holding companies based on the most successful cases and expert recommendations. In May 2023, at the second Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow, Metafrax Chemicals was recognized as the winner of the first international climate contest "Green Eurasia" in the nomination "Clean Industry" for the project of CO2 recovery unit in the Ammonia-Urea-Melamine complex.
